Romantic Bedroom

Cream and celadon were used interchangeably in this romantic bedroom, anchored by a custom velvet sleigh bed.

Handpainted furniture, luxurious fabrics and a luscious color scheme complete the look of this sensuous bedroom, a romantic retreat that envelopes you as you enter its doors. Photo by Dan Steinberg.

Fabrics and furnishings that are beautiful and timeless make an excellent foundation for flexibility and growth in this little girl's room. The bed with hidden trundle and child-sized table and chairs will make this lucky little girl the perfect host for slumber and tea parties to come.

The French doors open to a secret garden in this room that combines toile fabric, white matelasse and an antique rug.

Sage green walls provide a relaxing back drop to this bedroom. Plush fabrics were used for the custom bedding ensemble. The fabric panels hanging on the bed frame create a romantic cocoon. Designer tip: Paint the wall color up on to a portion of the recessed ceiling to give the illusion of more height.

We created this bedroom for a little girl. A lavender and cream toile coverlet coordinates with a gingham silk at the windows. Cream painted furnishings add a neutral touch to the space. A perfect place for a little princess to do her homework, dream and play!

This qualifies as romantic in my book due to the balanced offering of amenities for both of the sexes. Notice the chaise directly to the left for her and the antique flip-top bar with a classic Parisian smoking chair to the right for him. The couple will be drawn to the space in front of the fireplace, lounge on the shag rug and perhaps pull out a game from the round storage ottoman. Regardless of the plan for the evening, this bedroom is fit for romance. Photo by Donovan Swick.

An oversized bedroom wall is filled with custom headboard and an upholstered screen. The fabric colors are kept serene for this master bedroom.

This master bedroom suite is gifted with a great amount of space. The very dark brown, almost-black walls make this lofty room feel more intimate. The fireplace and TV wall was reinforced as a focal point with free form-painted horizontal stripes. The artwork, also in a horizontal format, helps maintain your eyes from perceiving the height of the ceiling. Such a bold combination takes a bit of moxie and faith in your designer's choice.

Tropical Bedroom

The warm, balanced exotic style of this bedroom satisfies the client's mixed tropical family background and need for serenity and harmony. The steel tables are made with a natural raw patina and covered with semi-gloss lacquer finish. The Nelson wall sconces offer an architectural element as well as a functional lighting piece, which provides bright or diffuse lighting. The dark coffee-colored walls balance out with the light honey bamboo flooring, light cream rug and vanilla window treatment. The exotic fish tank is visible from the bedroom through a small opening for added enjoyment.

Classic neutral colors and playful details make this bedroom a tropical paradise.

Nineteenth-century furnishings are the centerpiece of this dramatic room. The colonial bed, covered in antique Indian silk, is from a palace in Rajasthan, India; the capiz screen, with pressed and etched glass insets, is from the Philippines.

New Traditional Bedroom Design

Warm neutrals with golden accents draw you into this warm, intimate space. The slight sheen on the drapery panels and bedding add a luminous quality, and the linear details of the fabrics and furniture are caught by the light from the wall mounted arc sconces on either side of this master bedroom. A true retreat within the home, this cozy spot will make for a memorable 'staycation'.

Bed hangings fashioned of lace and a hand-loomed French linen rug add to the airiness of this light-filled master bedroom. The subtle contrasts in color and texture create an elegant and serene retreat. Photograph by Hyunjung Bay.

Fitzsimmons Design used a fresh periwinkle blue to fill the volume of space in this master bedroom. Light and airy window treatments complete the happy feeling in the room. Designer tip: When designing a large bedroom, think outside the box; choose a settee and a café table at the end of the bed for a private breakfast area.

An inviting guest room mixes warm golds with crisp black and white. Adding just a pop of color, the pillows repeat the spring green color found in the antique lamp.

Repeating the pattern in the rug, ceiling and throw pillow creates a very interesting look in a room.

Master Bedroom Pictures " HGTV Green Home 2011 "

Interior designer Linda Woodrum’s “ode to nature,” the master bedroom boasts organic bedding and furnishings that tell their own unique stories.

A beetle-kill barn door closes the niche off from the loft, so that an individual could work in the space while not interrupting family members. “The niche is a great spot. It can be your office, if you work at home,”

Cut-loop carpeting in a mossy green greets guests as they enter the master suite. “It’s rich and quiet, and supports that whole design theme,”

A carbon-steel side table, paired with a traditional club chair, features an eye-catching Celtic knot design.

Apparition, a graphite charcoal drawing by Anna Kaye, presides over the tranquil space. Ten percent of the artist’s sales go to Colorado’s State Forest Service to provide funding for the Bark Beetle Mitigation Fund.

A heavy-duty scaffolding table, nestled below a set of windows, serves as a display perch for decorative accessories, including a faux-bois table lamp.

An Asian-style rattan chair offers a tranquil space to read or relax. “It’s sculptural,” says Linda. “It’s back to being unusual, throwing in one piece in the mix that’s different and unexpected. It was an early find — one of those impulsive buys.”

The bed is flanked by two sturdy cement tables.

“The master bedroom is a very tranquil, Zen-like space,” says Linda. “I think that’s very significant today. People like to have a spot where they can go and relax, feel like they can go and escape, and we put all of that in that bedroom.”

Bedroom curtain design ideas 2011

Every bedroom deserves beautiful window curtains. They don’t need to be something which just keeps out the light so you can get a good night’s sleep!
The bedroom is a room where you can be yourself so it’s great if the whole décor makes you feel relaxed and happy. Here are eight ideas for gorgeous classic bedroom curtains.

1. Floor length and Full
Choose floor length curtains for your bedroom and pinch pleat or goblet headings to give a feeling of opulence using the fullness of the fabric. Alternatively a simply heading on the curtain topped with a valence or pelmet would also look good.
2. Add Voile
For more privacy during the day add a sheer voile under curtain on a rod across the top of the window. You can now buy voile in many shades and patterns but choose something subtle but with great detail for an understated yet pretty look.
3. Add Edgings
Plain curtains are often less expensive than patterned fabrics. Give them the designer touch with an expensive trim such as beading or fringing in a contrasting color. Trim your tiebacks too using the same edging.
4. Add a Border
You can add a contrasting border to a plain curtain with wide plain or velvet ribbon. A double border using two ribbons of different yet toning colors and widths look good too.
5. Add Volume
Nothing looks cheaper than curtains which are not full enough – always go for a cheaper fabric which drapes well and provide more volume rather than a more expensive fabric where you have to compromise on the width of curtain panel or length of curtains. If two and a quarter to two and a half times the width of your windows is required for a particular look go for two and a half and don’t think two will do!
6. Add a Contrast Lining
Instead of plain white or cream linings add a pretty contrast lining which you can show off by tying the curtains back to the sides of the windows. If you use tie tops you can even use these as reversible curtains.
7. A Simple Swag
If you have a narrow window you can add a simple swag with a length of hemmed fabric looped over a curtain rod and loosely stitched into place. Hang the curtains themselves on a separate rod so that the swag does not get in the way of operating the curtains.
8. Decorative Finials and Hold Backs
Don’t spoil the effect you are looking for by using plain curtain rods. Choose rods which come with or have the option of great finials – you can get these in many shapes and materials and consider using matching holdbacks if your curtains don’t have tie backs.
